What Is Informative Writing?
Informative writing is one of those things that you get to write essays on quite often in school and college. As the name indicates, the goal of this form of writing is to inform the reader of details regarding a specific subject or topic. Informative essays aim to provide as much information about a topic as possible. Understanding the basics of informative essays would also be helpful to compose other academic papers as well. Here is a step by step process to write informative essays.
Selection of Topic
The first and foremost step to write an informative essay is to decide on a topic. If you have not already been assigned a topic, then it is a plus for you to decide on your own. You can choose a topic that you find interesting or you are passionate about. Be as specific as you can. There is no need to choose a broad topic because it would get difficult.
Researching
The researching part is the most important one. When you have your topic, it is time to research about it. Collect as many facts and figures as you can from an authentic source. Even the slightest of details should be mentioned. You have to write the essay as if your readers know nothing about it. If you will be using professional terms, then make sure to provide meanings as well.
Creating an Outline
It is always advisable to create an outline before you actually start writing. The outline of the informative essay does contain an introduction, body, and conclusion, but it should be aligned with the following points.
Origin and History: This contains previous research on the topic and problems that occurred.
Process: This contains the actual information and current research on the topic.
Benefits: This contains the importance and benefits of the subject.
Writing a Draft
The last part is to start writing a draft based on the above steps. Edit it again and again until it becomes perfect.
