What Are the Parts of a Story?
A good and interesting story is written in a proper pattern to generate maximum interest of the readers. Here are the five parts of a good story:
The Exposition
The beginning of the story is also known as exposition. It sets the mood for the story. In this part, the author explains the setting of the story. The author focuses on the details to let the readers guess the time period. Main characters are also introduced. Mostly, a back story of the characters is given in this part. Their personalities and living conditions are discussed. Readers get acquainted with the protagonists and antagonists so that they understand why they react in certain ways in the upcoming chain of events. Usually, the reasons behind the main conflict are also mentioned in the exposition.
Rising Action
This is the part where the importance is given to the conflict. This part of the story contains tensions and suspense. The protagonist faces some sort of crisis and has to decide how to deal with it. The protagonist responds to the conflict and crisis by some sort of action that leads towards the climax of the story.
Climax (turning point)
The most important part of the story is the climax. This is the part that decides if the story was good enough. The climax is the chain of events that makes the protagonist vulnerable. The protagonist faces his or her most difficult time during the climax. This part ignites the most interest throughout the story.
Falling Action
After the turning point of the story comes the falling action. This is the part that focuses on the consequences of the climax. It can be good or bad. It shows how the characters’ deal with the consequences and lead toward the final part of the story.
Resolution
This is the ending part of the story. It tells what happened to the characters and how it shaped their lives. Every detail is exposed at the end.
