Using Illustrations and Details For Key Ideas Worksheets
Related ELA Standard: RI.1.7
Sometimes we can look at the illustrations that are attached to a work and get a decent understand of the theme and the role of the characters in a story. Other times, the illustration will lead us down the wrong path. The nature of the interactions between the author and the illustrator are vital to the expression provided by that drawing. These worksheets focus on using these drawings to make solid inferences into the work itself.

How Can a Picture Say a Thousand- Words?
You might have heard of the proverb "pictures say a thousand words". It clearly indicates the power of pictures and the impact it has on people. Here are the reasons why a picture says a thousand words:
Conveys Emotions
Pictures convey emotions in a way that words can't. Words can only describe the situation in a superficial way. However, pictures let you experience the emotions on a different level. They let you focus on the expressions and details. They let you closely examine the situation and judge better.
Adds Life to the Content
Long texts can be boring. People often skim through the passages. This makes them miss out on the most important details. However, texts with pictures are different. Pictures instantly add life to the content. They allow the readers to deeply understand what is being said.
Pictures Are Universal
Have you ever thought why the books for toddlers are often illustrated? This is because they are just beginning to learn the words and language. Text cannot add value to their learning as much as the pictures can. Now, most people are not toddlers and can understand the text. But the language barrier can be an impediment. Pictures are universal. They can be understood by anyone. They do not require you to know a certain language. Anybody can interpret the meaning of pictures. Pictures resonate with us in a way that words do not.
More Impactful
Words can create an impact, no doubt. But the way pictures create an impact is different. You use the sense of sight while viewing pictures. This can instantly change your feelings and mood regarding a topic. Pictures have a greater impact because you can closely relate to them. The sense of sight is a trustworthy sense. People tend to believe their eyes more.
