Learn Some Basic Spelling Rules
There are well over twenty different common rules that apply to spelling in the English language. At this level we only expect you to understand and apply a handful of them. The most fundamental rule is that every word in the English language consists of at least one vowel. There are several instances of onomatopoeia where this is not true, but in everyday common language you can accept that as a foundational fact. This also builds on the concept that every syllable has one vowel found within it. The next thing we want to know is the unique sounds of the letters c and g. C can sound as /s/ when it is found before e, i, or y. In all other instances c says /k/. G will sound as /j/ when found before an e, i, or y. In all other circumstances G will make the /g/ sound. The last rule that we want to focus on at this level is that the letter q is always followed by the vowel u.
