When reviewing a work for grammar errors there are many different levels to this process. Everyone has a slightly different approach, but the core process remains the same. I often start with looking for any errors that may be present in the subject verb agreement and this usually focuses on if the singular or plural tense was used properly. In some cases it can lead to tense change. The next most obvious deviation from this is the use of fragmented sentences. Fragments can jam everything up. The worksheets below run students through the core components of checking their grammar and peer reviewing others work.
Revising and Editing Writing Worksheets:
Proofreading Roping – This is a nice long passage to proofread and edit.
Scrambled Sentences – Create a paragraph that makes sense from the five sentences.
Frog Jumping Contest – Fix froggie's flyer for his new contest.
Proofreading a Letter – Jason writes a letter to his friend Stevie. He could use your help.
Finding Bam Bam – Bam Bam is Keisha's favorite teddy bear.
Hot Air Balloon Festival – Underline the mistakes, then correct the capitalization or punctuation mark mistakes, and color the matching hot air balloon for each mistake.
Skiing Revision – Cross through any sentence that is not needed. Number the sentences in the order that they should appear in the story. Rewrite the story in the correct order and omit the unneeded sentences.
Proofreading Knowledge – Color the buses by the sentences that are written correctly. Make the corrections to the sentences that are not written correctly. Rewrite the sentences that contain mistakes.
Proofreading Picnic – Read the story. Use the proofreading key to make corrections to the story.
Hopping into Revision – Help me make corrections to my story. Put a line through any information that does not belong in the story. Put a (/) between the two words where run-on sentences occur.
Ladybug Revision – Help Lizzie the Ladybug revise her sentences by putting them in order. Number the sentences as they should appear in a paragraph.
Proofreading Aquarium – Use the proofreading key to correct the mistakes.
Soccer Try Outs – Read the soccer try out flyer. Underline the capitalization mistakes and then write the correct letter over the word. Cross out any punctuation mistakes and write the correct punctuation over the word.
Tasty Proofreading – Read the sentences. Use proofreading key to make corrections. Rewrite the sentences correctly.
Proofreading with a Monkey – Read the story and follow the proofreading key to make corrections to the errors in the story.
