We often will be asked or responsible for some form of topical writing. There are a number of clear and understandable steps students should be able to uncover to complete these tasks. You should always start with a plan. Begin by outlining the goals of your work. It is helpful to note any key ideas you want to touch in with your writing. The next step is to do your research and find the facts that will back up your main points. Make certain to write down the sources that you use for your research. All that is left, at this point, is to write a clear work that meets all of these goals. You will find a series of worksheets that helps you work through all of your issues with this skill.

You can be assigned to write any kind of write-up including a narrative, descriptive, opinion or argumentative essay. What you have to do is learn the tips and tricks to develop the topic gradually with progression and keep your readers hooked to an essay.


While writing about any subject, you need to incorporate several definitions, facts, and figures, and relevant details/evidence to develop the topic. The evidence and facts tend to support the topic and help your readers to be hooked and wander into your write-up.

Usage of Definition


An introduction is the first paragraph of any write-up. It includes the explanation of the topic in a subtle manner. It must include the definition and a bit historical background about the topic to make your reader familiar with the subject.

Body paragraphs are the supporting paragraphs that include the details, facts, evidence and statements to raise arguments and opinions, and answer to them with supporting details.

Once you have developed the rough idea on which you will be working on, it is time to list all the key points. This does not have to be specific and discreet. The next step is to list your sources. Once you have a list of the points and ideas that you will be working on, you can move onto looking for the sources. You have to make sure that the information will be credible. That is why you should give significance to the sources that you will be using.

Once you are done with all the steps mentioned above, it is time to write your own opinion on the idea. Your opinion will help a lot in formulating the topic. This is because you will be able to narrow down the idea a little with your opinion. You will get to know what points should be given more importance.
