The craft of a skilled author is really easy to see as you move from paragraph to paragraph. A real wordsmith will have the paragraphs melting like butter over one another. There are a number of ways you can do this. The use of transition words will always help you rotate between paragraphs. Each topic sentence will often cue students on the need of a work. Organizing thoughts will help readers see the relationship and contribution of each paragraph to each other. Below you will find a ton of worksheets that can be used to help students connect sentences.

Cause and Effect – The first sentence should describe the first item. The second sentence should describe how the second item is related to the first.

How Are They Different? – To contrast objects or ideas means to look for ways that they are different. Circle two objects from each list.

Contrast – To contrast two things means to think of ways that they are different. Study each set of pictures. List at least 5 ways each set is different.

How Different Are They? – To contrast two things means to look for ways that they are different. For each set of items below, write two sentences.

How to Connect Sentences to a Paragraph?


While writing essays and articles, you should be well aware of how to connect sentences and paragraphs with each other. This is important because you need to divide your essay into different paragraphs to make your idea and point clear for your reader about what you intend to write. You should make sure that your writing flows by linking up to the paragraph so that the reader doesn't mix up the points.


The most important element to connect these sentences and build a relationship between them is 'Linking words'.


The common conjunctions for making complex sentences are though, although, unless, since, because, while, after, when, etc. These are used for reasoning, summing up the sentence, contrasting two statements, or predicting on the basis of the preceding statement. These are usually used to join two clauses to make a single sentence or to join two simple sentences.


Conjunctive adverbs are another category of words used for connecting sentences. These are not adverbs nor are they used to join clauses; instead, they are used to show how ideas are flowing between two sentences. However, next, otherwise, consequently, also, likewise, hence, therefore, finally, are some common examples of conjunctive adverbs. A comma is always placed after these words to separate them from the sentence as they are written at the beginning of a sentence.


For example:


1. They are done with collecting different types of seeds. They also found a place to show them. They have hired a gardener as well to water them daily. Finally, the plantation campaign is going to get started.


After listing all the things needed for plantation, "finally" is added in the next sentence, to sum up.
