Many stories have similar themes such as the fight between good and evil or the quest for peace. If you look at most forms of media these two overall themes really dominant many stories. Just about every super hero made today is a story of good versus evil. Almost all Disney oriented stories center around a quest theme. When we look at literature this examples are just seriously amplified. These worksheets will help students compare and contrast the treatment of these themes.

How to Contrast Two Books?


Here are some ways through which you can contrast two books:


The Characters


One of the easiest ways to differentiate between two different books or stories is to differentiate between the characters. Each story is unique and different due to the characters present in it. You will not find the same characters in different stories. In order to contrast two books, create character sketches of the main characters from both the stories. Focus on how these characters differ from each other. Take the protagonist for example. Make a list of all the differences that both the protagonists have. Pay attention to how both the personalities dealt with similar and different situations. You can also create character sketches of both the antagonists as well. This is because the antagonists are also main characters of the story. The story is almost incomplete without them.


Setting


One of the major differences between two different stories is that they are based in different settings. The setting of a story includes the location, time period, and era. The setting is important because it has a huge effect on how the story develops. This is because each time period, era, and location has its own uniqueness, culture, and norms. These things have a vital effect on the characters. In order to compare setting of the story, list out all the little details from both the stories. The details could include the living conditions of the characters, weather, city or village, and the era in which the characters are living in.


The Moral


Most stories have some sort of a valuable lesson in the end. This helps children in learning important aspects of life. You can also differentiate between two books by writing down the purpose of both. They both might have helpful lessons regarding different fields of life.
