Core Standard

The goal of writing at the production level is produce work that adheres to all the standard mechanics and follows work that is appropriate for the purpose of the task at hand. The writing style should follow the expectations of the audience. If you are writing a story for middle schoolers, you should stick with words and language that are not at a high school level. This can often be difficult for weaker writers and gifted students too. These worksheets will give students small writing tasks to complete. They can be completed in a short amount of time.

Production Writing Worksheets:

What is Production Writing?


Production writing is a traditional approach to writing in which students are encouraged to mimic a model text which is presented earlier. One needs to learn and understand production writing as it boosts one's imagination and creativity. Production writing emphasizes on the end product. Four important steps are used to achieve production writing and to come up with an excellent end product. These four steps are discussed in detail below:


Step # 1: Reading the Model

Since in production writing one has to copy from the model that is given, so the first step is to read the model carefully. Understand the content and highlight the most important information. While reading the model, pay attention to the language used, word choices, sentence structure, and on the techniques used by the writer in the model to make the content interesting.


Step # 2: Practicing the Features of Model

In this step, you are advised practicing the important features which you have highlighted, again and again. For example, if the model consists of some narrations, students must practice narrative writing so that they can easily write narrative content.


Step # 3: Organization of Ideas

Out of all the four stages of production writing, this stage is the most important. In production writing, organization of ideas is more important than the original ideas. Ideas in the final piece of writing must be organized in the same order as they were organized in the model text.


Step # 4: Production

This is the final step. In this step, students use the vocabulary, sentence structure and other writing skills they learned during the first step and produce their final piece of writing. Remember that the final piece of writing is in the form of a single draft and is an imitated version of the model text.
