You will quickly realize that many people make claims all day long, but only those that can back their claims with solid indisputable evidence can demonstrate creditability. When you repeatedly are seen as a credible source, you eventually become a respected authority. If you have a good amount of evidence, you will need decide on the most salient evidence. Too much evidence presented can backfire and overwhelm an audience. These worksheets will help students identify evidence and learn how to present it to an audience.

How to Validate a Claim When Writing?


The real crux of writing a strong argumentative piece is to hold a claim and support it with information, facts, and evidence. Claims without any evidence or facts are useless and ineffective for the audience. Addition of supportive information along with a claim increases the validity and authenticity of both the writing and the writer.


To validate a point, the writer can use different sort of resources. If the writer is writing on a topic whose research is based on quantitative analysis, then the writer must add tables and proven numbers in the paper to assure the audience that his/her research is valid and can be trusted. On the other hand, if a text is based on people’s views and choices then it is must for a writer to provide qualitative evidence of his work by adding interviews and opinions in the text. Here are some of the ways to validate your claims in writing:


Find a Reliable Resource


A literature review is one of the most important parts of any argumentative text with a lot of claims. Through a literature review, a writer comes to know about the research of other scholars on similar topics. To validate the claim, a writer can use other scholarly papers and arguments and can add those in his paper. Moreover, the presence of citations in the paper makes the research more appealing to the audience and looks credible.


Take-Out The Meaning from Data


Validation cannot be done only by using reliable resources. To increase the validity of writing, the writer should know how to explain the information to the audience. E.g., if the writing is using statistical data then he should elaborate it to the fullest.


Use Triangulation Method


Using solely one method for data collection provides a single perspective for the research and often makes the research doubtful.
