An infinitive usually refers to the word "to" that is followed immediately by a verb in the most primitive form. The compilation of both the word "to" and the verb are in fact the infinitive. This mean that a tense is not applied and it isn't wound to any form of a subject. Infinitives can be used as three different parts of speech: adverbs, adjectives, and nouns. There are unique verbs that require the Infinitive losses the word "to". These words include, but are not limited to sensory words such as: feel, hear, let, see, and finally watch. Why Do We Use Infinitives?


Infinitive can serve a wide landscape of uses in English grammar. When infinitives are used basic verbs have their function blended into either an adjective, adverb, or noun. Infinitives can serve as direct objects. For example: "Rick really wants to see!" The phrase "to see" actually functions as a noun. The senses as usually associated with verbs. Verbs can also serve as subjects when it comes to infinitives, something you never heard of. An example would be found in the sentence: "To go, through so much trouble." Let's take a look at verbs becoming adjectives in this example: "Mickey didn't want to go." Let's take a crack at making a verb an adverb, here goes: "Kelly took the car to understand what was not working." "to understand" is adverb because that bad boy modifies the verb "took".
