Prepositions are words that identify a relationship between two other words. They are often locational words (examples: above, between, under, and outside), but can also be used to describe possession (example: among, for, with). Prepositions are most often found in the middle of the two words they are describing the relationship of. These worksheets will help us better understand the use of prepositions in sentences and advancing to paragraphs.

Frequently Used Preposition Worksheets To Print:

"in," "at," and "on" – Using one of those three will do it for you.

Plain Prepositions – We start off very simple. The wrong answers stick out.

Preposition Match – Time to start zigzagging some lines all over the place.

Prepositions in Sentences – Figure out which of the three makes sense at all.

"out," "in," and "with" – We meet up with three new culprits for us.

The Most Frequently Used Prepositions

Prepositions are important parts of a sentence. Their function is to link the object and the subject together. A preposition usually comes before a noun or a pronoun in a sentence. Here are a few of the most frequently used prepositions and their meanings.


In front of


This proposition is used to convey the message that there is something or someone standing in front of another person or thing. It is usually associated with locations.


For example


People were standing in front of the car.


There is a line in front of me.


Your chair is in front of that table.


Amidst


This proposition is used to denote the happenings between two or more people or things.


For example


Amidst the crisis, she ran away.


There was tension amidst them.


Behind


This proposition is often referred to as the opposite of the "in front of" preposition. It is used to express that something or someone is at the back.

I was standing behind him.


The stalls are behind the car parking.


The part is at the ground behind the school.


Across From


This preposition is used to indicate that something or someone is on the opposite side.


For example


The girl lives across the school.


The venue is across the hall.


I parked the car across the road.


She is standing across your house.


Beside


Beside is a preposition that is used to indicate that a person or a thing is right next to something.


For example


She was standing right beside me.


My house is beside the mall.


I will wait for you beside the lake.


Above


Above is a preposition that is used to indicate that something or someone is higher than a given reference point.


For example


She is standing above the red line.


I am above the hills.
