The are a collection of words that students just have to have rote memorized. A super skill for students that are working on their reading readiness. This will serve them well as they begin to read sentences and eventually full paragraphs. Many teachers will often use the term "sight words" and expect everyone to instantly know what they are speaking about. There are a number of words in the English language that are renegades. They don't follow basic spelling rules or have an overwhelming number of syllables. These are words that you will need to memorize because they break from the paradigm of decoding. We commonly see two different standard list of these terms. The Dolch sight word list was created by Doctor Edward Dolch in the early forties. Dr. Edward Fry created the his own Fry list that expanded to higher grade levels. These worksheets will actively use all of these different terms in various helpful and educational activities.
Dolch Grade 1 List - The standard form contains just over forty terms at this grade level.
Dolch Preprimer List - This is first collection of words students should begin with. These terms are seriously common in just about all forms of writing composition.
Dolch Primer List - This is the most sizeable collection of terms in the entire series. There are just over fifty words in all.
Fry's List - Dr. Fry took the Dolch list in the 1950s and greatly expanded it to help produce many modern reading programs.
Patterned and Irregular Word Spelling - This is the natural progression after working on and mastering these terms.
