Here's a brief description of some of the most popular events that take place during the Summer Olympics:
Archery
Archery is one of the oldest sports in the Summer Olympic Games. The games allow both men and women to have separate individual and team events. The current Olympic archery competition supports four medal events: men's individual, men's team, women's individual, and women's team.
Swimming
Swimming is one of the most popular sports in the Olympic Games program. It is one of five sports that have been regularly contested at every Summer Olympic Games since 1896. The 2020 Games in Tokyo boasted 35 swimming events with 17 events for men and women and a medley relay mixed. For the first time in Olympics history, the games included women's 1,500 and men's 800, equalizing the events for men and women.
Gymnastics
This one of the more demanding disciplines because it has many different area that competitors must master. There are three separate disciplines at the Olympic Games in the sport of gymnastics.
They are:
Rhythmic Gymnastics - in these events, the competitors perform choreographed routines that incorporate hand-held apparatus.
Artistic Gymnastics - in this event the athletes compete using different kinds of equipment and have multiple floor routines in both individual and team events.
Trampoline - this involves bouncing themselves on a trampoline to total heights of up to eight meters. Here, the athletes perform acrobatic movements in mid-air, including twists and somersaults. They are awarded points for execution, difficulty, and flight time.
Modern Pentathlon
The 5 events of this sport are: Fencing, Swimming, Horse riding, Combined running and shooting event
In this step, the leading competitor starts first, and the rest follow at times according to their current point score. It consists of a 3,200m race (with four laps of 800m) and four shooting stops. The first athlete who crosses the finish line wins gold.
