Historical Mysteries
Here are some of the mysteries from History that were never solved.
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Some ancient writers wrote about the hanging gardens of Babylon. These gardens were constructed in Babylon, which is an ancient city. It is now known as Iraq. However, the exact location of the gardens is unknown. The ancient writers considered the gardens as the wonder of the world. The archaeologists have been unable to find the remains of such a garden. The description in the writings does not match with anything that was found. Stephanie Daley, a researcher from Oxford, suggests that the gardens are located in Nineveh. However, Nineveh and Iraq have faced a lot of damage due to wars. This is why it is assumed that this mystery will always remain a mystery.
The City Of Atlantis
Plato is a famous Greek philosopher who wrote about Atlantis in the fourth century BC. He mentioned that the city of Atlantis was in the Atlantic Ocean. The city of Atlantis went to war with the city of Athens. As a result, the Athenians defeated Atlantis which made the Atlantis vanish beneath the ocean. Today, no scholar believes this story to be true. However, they do believe that the story has been inspired by the true events that took place at that time. A possibility is that the Minoan civilization could have been referred to as Atlantis. It was built on the island of Crete. Minoan was not in the Atlantic, it was in the Mediterranean but it did face damage due to the eruption of a volcano in Greece. However, this theory is still not confirmed and the city of Atlantis will always remain a mystery.
Jack The Ripper
In the year 1888, a guy named Jack killed five women by mutilating them in London. The police received several letters challenging and taunting them to find Jack. There is no proof that those letters were sent by Jack himself. These letters mentioned the name Jack the Ripper. The police could never find Jack the Ripper. Many people were brought to the police and assumed as Jack the Ripper. The real identity of Jack the Ripper remains a mystery.
