As the name indicates, South America is located mostly in the southern hemisphere. It was home to the ancient Incan Civilization, but today is home to the fifth largest continental population. Due to the pleasantly warm climate South America is mostly rainforest, grassland, and savanna. The continent is home to twelve countries and just under four-hundred million people. These worksheets will look at the natural and culture climate of South America.

All About South America


South America is the continent that is on the south of the North America. The two important continents are differentiated through the Panama Canal. It is what separates the both. On the west side of the Panama Canal is the Pacific Ocean whereas on the right side of the Panama Canal is the Atlantic Ocean.


There are around 390 million people living in the South America. The land that is occupied by this continent is 17,815,420 square kilometers. It creates the 12% of the world's total land. South America is home to many high peaks of the world. Aconcagua that is in Argentina is around 6959 meters above the sea level. The largest lake of the South America is the Lake Titicaca. It is situated at the border of Peru and Bolivia. The continent is famous for the Amazon Forest. The Amazon River is the longest river in South America. It is also the second longest in the world. The largest country in terms of size and population is Brazil. Portuguese and Spanish are the common languages that are spoken in that country. Apart from them, around 180 other languages are also spoken.


The climate of the South America is mostly tropical. The weather is dry. The southeast is humid subtropical. It also witnesses a lot of rainfall depending on the different places. However, the Atacama Desert is considered as one of the driest places in the world.


South America is also home to a number of animals. There are jaguars, anacondas, piranhas, tapirs, cougars, macaws, and chinchillas. People visit this continent to experience the wildlife.


There are many amazing tourist attractions in South America. Machu Picchu is a historic site that is located in Peru. The angel falls in Venezuela is the world's tallest waterfall. People visit Brazil to see the Christ redeemer.
